Fear Of Failure

Be it in business, on the playing field or in social situations we all place a meaning to failure and it can be enough to stop us from trying something new.  Fear of failure can paralyse us into doing nothing.

In reality every failure is an opportunity for learning.  If you think clearly about any situation in which failure has been the outcome it is possible to look back at that situation and see what was learned from the process.  Instead of looking at the failure as the conclusion, look at it as a stepping stone to learning new skills and experiences.

Think of it like this:

  • It is more likely that you have learned far more from failures than you have successes.
  • Seeing every failure as an opportunity to learn more about yourself and about what to change in the future will help you get the results that you want.

Life is all about learning.  When you were a toddler learning to walk; for several days you probably fell down, but I’m fairly sure that you didn’t stop trying, you learnt from it and progressed until you could walk and then learnt to run.

What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?  If you were confident of success and sure of your outcomes, how would you behave differently?

The greatest failure is to not try at all – you will learn far more about yourself by accepting that at times you will fail and be prepared to learn from that failure when it occurs.  Do not let fear of failure be a wall that keeps you imprisoned.
